What is rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a type of cosmetic surgery to reshape your nose that can be performed at Best Impression Cosmetic Surgery’s private outpatient surgical center. At the same time as rhinoplasty surgery, you can also have a septoplasty surgery performed to improve your breathing if you have a deviated septum. At Best Impression Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Hsu personally plans your rhinoplasty surgery with you according to your goals. During your consultation, you will be able to visualize your new nose using our Vectra 3D imaging machine. Together, you and Dr. Hsu will design the changes to your nose that you would like to see.

During rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Hsu makes small incisions at the underside of your nose and inside your nose to minimize visible scarring. She will reshape your nasal bone and cartilage to create your ideal nose shape. To minimize the amount of swelling you experience postoperatively, Dr. Hsu places a splint that needs to stay in place for 1 week. While you will notice a change right away, it takes at least 3 months for you to start to see your ultimate results and usually a full year to see your final results.

What should I expect during the rhinoplasty recovery period?

Patients usually have stitches and a splint that are in place for 1 week. In the first 1-2 weeks after surgery, you should keep your head elevated and avoid motions like bending over or lifting heavy objects. It may be temporarily difficult for you to breathe clearly because of the swelling, but your breathing improves quickly as the swelling subsides.

You might also have bruises around your eyes that you can treat with a cold compress. Although you will see a difference in your appearance right away after the splint is removed, the healing from rhinoplasty surgery takes nearly a full year for you to see your final results.
